Mortar Joint Installation
Mount fiber optic cable directly between glass blocks. Use glass
block without edge coating to allow for light transmission. Using
double-sided adhesive, place fiber optic cable on the top of the
row of glass block. Run a heavy bead of Mica’s Silicone Adhesive
on both sides of cable, to encapsulate. Apply mortar to joint and
set the block. At the end of the glass block wall, a channel will
have to be created to hide the fiber cable where it passes from
row to row. This channel must be a minimum of 2” deep to avoid
kinking the fiber optic cable.

Back Lighting of Glass
Blocks
Using 3/4” plywood, painted white, position plywood 3” to 6” behind
glass block. Mount, the U-channel and fiber optic onto the plywood
at the center point of each row of glass block, using adhesive and
wood screws. To help keep fiber in place, run a bead of silicon
inside the U-channel.

The Illuminator
Specifications: Call or email us for the illuminator to suit your application.
Like all fiber optic installations, the illuminator can be housed away from the application in an easily accessible ventilated hatch or enclosure. A color wheel allows for color change, or a single color filter can be used if a constant color is preferred.
Ask us about illuminator options as well.
